Aprilia was the surprise of 2022 in MotoGP, finally entering the fight for podiums and victories – especially with Aleix Espargaró. Although they were not constantly present in these positions, they managed to achieve them again last year, also with Maverick Viñales, but the results fell somewhat short of expectations. Loris Reggiani, who represented Aprilia in the former 250cc and 500cc for several seasons, spoke about his expectations for the upcoming season.
Quoted by Motosan.es, the former rider argued that the Noale manufacturer may not be much different from 2023: ‘In my view, Aprilia’s role is destined to continue as it was last season, which, although it’s not nice to say, was a bit below 2022 when there was a long time belief that Espargaró would try to win the World Championship‘.
In Reggiani’s understanding, Aprilia does not have a problem with riders: ‘Many argue that it is also a matter of riders, that Aleix and Viñales are not suitable to aspire to the title, but I think that in reality it is not like that. For me it is quite clear – just as Ducati is the best bike, Aprilia is not – and this is demonstrated by the fact that, on and off the track, all its riders are always fast‘.
