After the cancellation of the Argentine GP, many questioned the MotoGP calendar in 2024 and still had some doubts about the Sokol circuit in Kazakhstan, but Carmelo Ezpeleta assured that it will indeed go ahead this year.
The CEO of Dorna was questioned by Mundo Deportivo about the issue, with the responsible party clarifying that, although there are still some issues to be resolved, the GP will indeed go ahead: ‘There is no distance problem in Kazakhstan, I am talking to them. The circuit has been completed since July and some facilities are still missing. The Kazakhstan organization will bring a large number of people to the Qatar GP because there will be many synergies between them regarding the teams. It is reasonably on the right track.’
As for the Hungarian GP, which was on standby in case of any contingencies, it will not happen, at least for now, as explained: ‘As for Balaton, at the moment we are not thinking about it. They were not able to do the necessary work to be approved for MotoGP. And no, it will not be done. If any Grand Prix were in the air, it would still be 20 Grand Prix.’
Kazakhstan will host the MotoGP from June 14 to 16.
