David Alonso dominated the Moto3 Americas GP race, achieving his first win of the year. Although leading practically from start to finish, there was a phase in the race where his advantage decreased considerably – until the retirement of a rival near the end left him again with a comfortable lead.
The CFMoto Aspar youngster admitted, quoted by the site SPEEDWEEK.com, that maintaining concentration was a difficult task on a large circuit like Austin:
– One lap is quite long. When you see that there are still four laps to go, that is still a lot. On the long straight, I started thinking about all sorts of things. It was truly difficult to maintain high concentration in the final laps.
This was a unique situation for Alonso, in his own words: ‘I have never been in this situation before. We finally got our first win on our own, that’s what I always dreamed of‘.
With the victory, the Colombian is two points behind the championship leader, but he remains grounded: ‘The championship is long. It’s difficult to make a difference because we are all very close. That’s why every point counts‘.
