Danilo Petrucci once again was the fastest in the third and final free practice of the Superbike World Championship in Portimão. The rider set the best time of the weekend so far, in a session where Ivo Lopes repeated the 22nd position.
Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) was the first to complete a flying lap, but in less than a minute there were four different leaders: Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW), Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha), and Alex Lowes also took turns at the top of the timesheet.
The British Kawasaki rider improved his time right after, staying at the top for over ten minutes… until Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati) set the best time of the practice at 1m40.316s. Lowes didn’t improve until the end, but finished second, 0.254s behind. Towards the end, Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) set his best lap, but ended up in third, 0.260s behind.
Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW), who was hindered by bike problems in FP2 yesterday, finished fourth, followed by van der Mark in fifth. The top five all improved compared to yesterday’s sessions, as did Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) and Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati), who finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
As for Lopes, the Portuguese rider from Petronas MIE Racing Honda continues to adapt to the Honda CBR1000RR-R and show progress, setting the best time of the weekend so far. This once again placed him in 22nd and second-to-last position, and just like in the two Friday sessions, he outperformed teammate Adam Norrodin.
