Álvaro Bautista is aiming to take the lead in the World Superbike Championship this weekend in Assen. The Aruba.it Ducati rider is just behind teammate Nicolò Bulega, and is coming off his first win of the year.
The champion of the last two years has made clear his goal for the Dutch round – to continue the progress from the previous race: ‘The weekend in Barcelona was very positive because the feeling with the bike improved a lot. The goal in Assen is to build on this foundation to continue making progress‘.
In Bautista’s view, there will be challenges to consider such as weather conditions and the level of his rivals, so he prefers to focus on the work at hand:
– The weather will be a question mark for all riders and the competition has also increased a lot this season. Therefore, we have to focus only on working as best as we can session by session. Then, on Sunday night, we will assess the results.
Currently, Bautista is in second place in the championship, 12 points behind Bulega. The start in Australia was tough, but the Spanish rider reacted and managed to get on the podium in all the races in Barcelona – including the win in the second main race.
