KTM aims to take new steps in MotoGP, once again approaching the top and the fight for titles. Nicolas Goyon, team manager of the satellite Red Bull GasGas Tech3, believes that this progress will be made, being confident for 2024.
The Frenchman revealed KTM’s estimates regarding the time lost per lap to the fastest riders: ‘Last week we were all at the factory and I had a good conversation with Fabiano [Sterlacchini, KTM’s technical director] about the goals and how the progress was. We made some progress. And how far we are from the top. And statistically there are some interesting numbers that show that we are not far from victory. And we believe that throughout the season, the average lap time loss is less than 0.2s per lap. If we can improve by 0.2s per lap, we are close to the first Ducati bike. Two tenths is a lot, but it’s only 0.2s’.
Goyon is also encouraged by the aerodynamic solutions that are in the pipeline, as well as the ingredients for success being gathered: ‘I saw in particular the aerodynamic items to test in the next two tests and there are very interesting things. I can only say that the whole factory is working really hard. I really think we took an interesting step last year and now we need to take another step. But everyone is prepared, they are working hard, we have the right riders to do it. And honestly, I am really confident that we will finish the season close to Ducati’.
