Francesco Bagnaia managed to come out of the Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix 14 points ahead of Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) in the title fight – one more than he had when he arrived in Sepang. However, the Ducati rider is aware that it is still not a large margin.
The reigning champion said in a press conference that his current lead is very narrow: ‘We have to wait until Valencia. It is true that 14 points are better than nothing or being behind. It’s not much. If it were the normal season with one race [per GP] it would be a good margin to manage. But with 37 points every weekend, it’s not much, it’s a very small margin’.
For the upcoming round, Bagnaia wants to repeat the performance he had in Sepang: ‘In Qatar, it will be important to start working like we did this weekend, trying to understand everything right from Friday and be at the top like we did this weekend – maybe on pole position again, or it will be important to start from the front row. And then in the race, try to attack like today, have a good fight. Qatar will be new for everyone due to the new asphalt, the new tires. We will see’.
