Maverick Viñales achieved his first victory with Aprilia in MotoGP this Sunday. The rider recovered from a slow start in the Americas GP to end up winning in an authoritative manner in a round where he showed his strength from early on.
In a press conference, the Spanish rider stated: ‘The feeling is incredible, I simply feel that this level of happiness is incredible. It’s a difficult way to achieve this victory, but I knew that since last year we changed the balance of the bike a lot and I found the speed that I had, that I could achieve. Obviously not in the way I did today, because you don’t have many races like this in your life‘.
Despite the clutch problems he faced, Viñales explained that it was a touch that set him back the most, before a quick recovery: ‘This morning I had some problems with the clutch, and then obviously I had it again in the race. But it wasn’t a bad position, I was in third. I had a touch that unfortunately pushed me wide and I ended up in tenth. I knew I had enough pace to keep going, but not that far back, because after all, in a few laps I was already with the front group‘.
Now, #12 is torn between wanting to enjoy the moment and being aware that he has to stay committed to the work: ‘I want to go to the garage with the team to enjoy and then obviously go back home and enjoy with my family. But we have to remember that tomorrow we need to train again and we can’t relax because others also work hard. I’m ready for that. I just want to enjoy, but at the same time I can’t wait to do some laps in Jerez and enjoy this feeling I have on the bike again‘.
