The Sport Heritage range pays tribute to some of Yamaha’s most iconic motorcycles from the rich history by combining nostalgic design with the latest high-performance engine and chassis technology. For 2024, the reference to Yamaha’s racing tradition introduces the new XSR900 GP, which honors some of the most celebrated racing machines from Yamaha’s illustrious past in a way never seen before in the Sport Heritage range.
By combining the nostalgia of the 1980s Grand Prix feel with the latest technology, including Yamaha’s iconic 890cc CP3 engine, the 6-axis IMU unit derived from the R1, and lean-sensitive riding aids, the XSR900 GP embodies Yamaha’s racing history without sacrificing modern-day performance.
The XSR900 GP features a top fairing that harks back to this era, not only with a clear influence from the 1980s YZR Grand Prix bikes, but also with hints of the FZR and TZR production sport bikes from the late 1980s and early 1990s. To maintain the racing bike look, the XSR900’s round LED headlights are replaced by a compact lens module, perfectly integrated into the front fairing, creating a sense of unity with the front fairing while maintaining excellent illumination.
The new Yamaha XSR900 GP also features several very interesting technical characteristics, such as its distinctive design that evokes Grand Prix riders from the 1980s and 1990s, a new 5″ color TFT screen with connectivity, high-quality fully adjustable KYB front and rear suspension, a new handlebar design and switch design on the handlebar, Deltabox-style frame with optimized rigidity, a comfortable seat, new side covers and removable seat cover, new footrest style and positioning, Yamaha D-Mode and 6-axis IMU, cruise control, third-generation Quick Shift system, and A&S clutch, the sophisticated 890 cc high-torque CP3 engine with EU5+ approval, and Yamaha Spinforged wheels equipped with Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23.
