Toprak Razgatlioglu tested a Yamaha MotoGP bike last year, which suggested, at least, an investment from the manufacturer in the rider. However, months later it became evident that the premier class was out of the question and the Turkish rider ended up moving to ROKiT BMW in the World Superbike Championship.
The 2021 champion has now revealed to the website motorsport-total.com that, despite the test, Yamaha never had intentions of putting him in MotoGP: ‘Yamaha didn’t plan to take me to MotoGP’.
On Razgatlioglu’s side, his manager Kenan Sofuoglu assured more than once that there was no intention of going to MotoGP, with the goal being to continue succeeding in WSBK.
Regarding the move to BMW, #54 explained: ‘They didn’t want the new contract and that’s why I started talks with BMW. I signed with BMW and I am very happy now. It was a new challenge for me and I am more motivated than before’.
