Yamaha completed two days of private MotoGP testing in Valencia this week, and the engine received a lot of attention – with Augusto Fernández and Cal Crutchlow on duty.

It is known that the new V4 engine was on track, but it may not have been the only one. According to GPOne.com, the Iwata manufacturer may also have begun preparing for the 2027 rules by putting an 850 cubic centimetre prototype on track.

As for the V4 engine, although it is now being tested on track, there is still a long way to go before it can reach the races: the bike also needs to be adapted and, moreover, developing an engine is a time-consuming process.

Thus, it is possible that the regular riders will only be able to use it in races next season. In any case, Yamaha is on the tier with more concessions and development, so in regulatory terms it can swap the engine during the year if it so chooses.
