Toprak Razgatlioglu has been linked to MotoGP on more than one occasion, but he chose to stay in Superbikes and even made a surprising team change. While Gregorio Lavilla was happy that the Turkish rider stayed, the championship’s top executive also expressed concern.
In an interview with Motosan.es, Lavilla was asked about Razgatlioglu’s preference to stay in WSBK despite the interest from MotoGP. He responded without hiding some apprehension about what may come next, as only one of the “Titanic Trio” remained in his team, and that was the champion, Álvaro Bautista: ‘There’s no need to deceive ourselves. I’m worried about what will happen next year, because it could become monotonous, in the sense that out of the three riders, only one stays with the same team and the same bike.’
The retention of the former world champion brings happiness, with the hope that he will perform well, while also acknowledging the added value and competitiveness that the organization has been striving to promote:
– I want Toprak to stay and at least achieve the same as he did with Yamaha. I hope that, after the effort it took to get here, they can do their job. Additionally, they have put all the ingredients in place and now have a lot at stake. Perhaps less so for the riders, as they have already proven their worth.
