The last round of MotoGP had a long race of authentic terror for the Aprilia riders and Aleix Espargaró was no exception. He admitted that the manufacturer tried to solve the problem of the bike’s heat, although in the current situation with tight rules, it is not always possible to do it in the best way. He also praised Maverick Viñales for his physical condition but reminded that even that did not “serve” his teammate to finish the race.
After the issue that occurred last Sunday in MotoGP, where Aleix admitted to having had the most difficult race of his life due to the extreme discomfort and malaise caused by the heat emanating from the bike, the Spanish rider talked about the team’s attempts to solve the problem, but remembered that in the current scenario, that… is not easy:
– The engineers worked hard during these days. It is important to understand that it is not easy at this moment because of the rules, and with the fairing like this, it is difficult to change things. Romano [Albesiano] and the engineers worked very hard but I am not sure if we have found a solution and I think that during today we will know if we can change something for Sunday.
#41 recalled that this problem was not new: ‘They know that this is not the first year we have had this problem. I did my best and the race in Thailand was horrible but this cannot happen again, it was very very dangerous and I hope there can be a solution or that the rain helps us on Sunday’.
Regarding whether this aspect, from a safety point of view for the rider, could be subject to a review in the future, Espargaró replied: ‘Maverick wasn’t able to finish, I did… well, where is the limit, if I finished?! Maverick is very strong. He trains hard and is one of the fittest riders in the paddock but he couldn’t finish and I did. I’m not saying I’m Superman, I’m saying I was above the limit, at 100%, but it’s difficult to define where to put the limit, but in Thailand it was for me…’.
