There is no official confirmation yet, but Enea Bastianini’s manager, Carlo Pernat, stated this week that the rider will be on an official KTM in MotoGP in 2025 – which would happen at Red Bull GasGas Tech3, considering that Red Bull KTM already has Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta.
Although the source is reliable, there has been no official announcement yet. However, the apparent arrival of Bastianini at KTM (or Pierer Mobility, if you prefer), is a serious threat to the future of Augusto Fernández. The rider is currently at the end of his contract and is part of Tech3.
It is his second season in MotoGP, but the results and performances continue to be modest: he has only scored points in three of the first seven main races, has three retirements, and his best result was an 11th place. He is in 17th in the championship, just behind Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM).
Fernández may therefore have his future at risk in MotoGP, as he has not yet shown solid arguments to convince another team to choose him if he leaves Tech3. And something that the field is short of are spots for 2025.
But Miller may also have his future in doubt in the premier class. Without a place in the KTM factory team, the Australian has stated that he is looking for a job. Moving to Tech3 could be an option, but with Bastianini arriving, it could become complicated – it is worth remembering that Miller is in a crisis of results and performance, having only scored points in two of the first seven main races of the year.
The eventual addition of Bastianini to Red Bull GasGas Tech3 would be another big surprise in this MotoGP rider market, having the potential to trigger other unexpected movements or seen as unlikely until recently.
