With the acquisition of Dorna by Liberty Media imminent, rumours have emerged regarding Carmelo Ezpeleta’s future as CEO of MotoGP’s promoter.

The 86-year-old Spaniard brings over three decades of experience, during which he has been widely recognised as instrumental to the championship’s success. However, new ownership often brings change.

Nevertheless, if it’s up to Ezpeleta, his departure will not happen any time soon: ‘I know there is a lot of speculation. But if I stay healthy, I would like to continue for another two or three years. That’s my plan and my vision’, he told GPOne.com.

The long-standing MotoGP boss, who has overseen countless changes and consistent growth, added: ‘I feel comfortable and good in my role, and I have gained a lot of experience. Without work, I would break down’.

When Liberty Media took over Formula 1 in 2017, Bernie Ecclestone stepped aside to make way for Chase Carey – who has since been succeeded by Stefano Domenicali. It remains to be seen what Ezpeleta’s future holds, though despite approaching 90, he seemingly retains his usual sharpness and clarity.
