Close to a year after adding his only victory there with LCR Honda, Álex Rins returns to Austin next weekend. The GP of the Americas is the third round of the season, in which the Monster Energy Yamaha rider will seek to do better than 13th place in Portimão.
The Spaniard commented in a statement: ‘I am very happy to return to COTA. It is a track that I truly like, and last year’s victory was something special. I am looking forward to this GP, it is one of my favorites‘.
However, it is not in the past but in the present that Rins focuses, emphasizing that the cancellation of the private test in Portimão due to rain will require developing that work in Austin:
– More than spending too much time remembering, I want to focus on the task at hand. It was a pity that the private test in Portimão was canceled. We were very unlucky with the weather. It meant that we had to adjust our plans and we will work on the bike settings this weekend.
Looking at Rins’ track record, Austin is one of his favorite tracks: since his debut in MotoGP, he has only missed the top four on one occasion, being the only one besides Marc Márquez to win more than once at the Texas circuit.
