Pedro Acosta starts the Catalunya GP with good indicators. The Spanish rider finished the first day of practice in third position overall. Acosta, despite being a rookie, showed great speed throughout the day and managed to finish in the top 3, despite the difficulties all riders faced with lack of rear tire grip.
In the debrief, the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider talked about the sensations he had on his bike during the first day of practice at the Montmeló circuit.
– In Le Mans, we worked a bit more on the setup style, so to speak. Today I can say that we are improving the base we had before, it’s a constant we must maintain. Barcelona is not the track with the most grip of the season, but in any case, it’s very unpredictable to understand how tire wear will be, because if we stop after eight laps and come back with the same tires, the feeling is completely different.’
Asked about what he thinks of the good performance of the KTMs so far in Barcelona, compared to the Ducatis, Acosta replied: ‘To be honest, I didn’t follow any Ducati today, so I don’t know. Last year Pecco was ready to win if he hadn’t crashed, we have to wait for tomorrow. It will be a question mark how the performance of the Ducatis will be tomorrow.’
Asked if today’s result gave him confidence after the crash at the Le Mans GP, Acosta showed great confidence.
– Who said I lost confidence? I have all the confidence, everything is fine, all good.
