The Repsol Honda Team has not had any MotoGP victories since 2022. For the first time, they failed to reach the top of the podium last year, and only the LCR Honda satellite team prevented a complete zero year for the Japanese manufacturer.
For 2024, the goal is to turn things around, with the duo of riders consisting of Joan Mir and Luca Marini. As such, there has been a dedicated effort to improve the bike – already visibly different from its predecessor. But when will victories be within reach again?
That’s what they asked Alberto Puig, team director, who began by answering: ‘I wish I knew. But what is evident, and to be objective, we have to take into account that we have come from a very low point. The past few years have not gone well for us for many reasons, and now we really see that the foundations have been laid to start a true recovery. Concessions have been made so that those who are not in the right place can get into the right place, making the championship even more exciting and balanced. And we will try to use this’.
The Spaniard would like to see the riders capable of fighting for the top three positions around the middle of the year: ‘We hope, sincerely, that during the first part of the season we can reduce that distance a little bit, and it would be very nice to think that by the middle of the season or even after the summer, both Joan and Luca have at least the possibility of fighting for podiums and victories – which, in the end, is the goal that Repsol Honda has and also the riders themselves, because riders are always ambitious. That’s what we will strive for and what we aim for at this moment’.
