Maverick Viñales contributed to Aprilia’s one-two finish at the Catalunya MotoGP, finishing in second place. He led much of yesterday’s race in Barcelona, but in the final laps he couldn’t hold off his teammate Aleix Espargaró.
Speaking at a press conference, #12 described the emotions brought by the result: ‘I feel fulfilled. That’s a fantastic feeling. Of course, I really wanted to win, but in the end Aleix had a little more than me. But, other than that, honestly we have to be very happy and proud of how we are riding the bike. I felt so fantastic when I was leading the race. I felt that was my moment. And when I was leading the race I felt something unbelievable, because it had been a long time since I led a race. You never lose that focus, that moment, that rhythm, and it makes me feel like I can do this again‘.
Performance aside, the joy within Aprilia was something that particularly touched Viñales: ‘My favorite moment was arriving at the closed park and seeing how the people were enjoying themselves, seeing the true happiness of these people – the real happiness of these people made me feel so proud‘.
