Despite not seeing progress from the Monster Energy Yamaha in terms of results and performances in MotoGP, Fabio Quartararo has put his trust in the signs of the work he sees and renewed until 2026.
The Frenchman said he received information during the Portuguese GP that convinced him: ‘For me, it was great, because in Portugal I received a lot of information that made me want to stay. First of all, because of the project that Yamaha is building for the future, starting from now, of course – from January‘.
Quartararo highlighted the noticeable differences in the way of working, in addition to not being indifferent to Yamaha’s loyalty: ‘I think what really made me want to stay was that we completely changed the way of working. Since the test in Malaysia something was not working. Some engineers wanted to remove it, but some new engineers said “No, we will solve the problem.” And it worked. It is a confidential project for the future that will be huge, that Yamaha is investing a lot in the project, and a brand like Yamaha… this is my sixth year and they really want to keep me, so it is also their loyalty‘.
The new contract is for two years, when the distance from Yamaha to the top is large. Asked if he believes there is enough time to reach where he wants, El Diablo showed confidence: ‘Yes. I don’t know when, but especially this year will not be easy, because I think we started a little too late. But we will already see some steps forward coming in the middle of the season and hopefully next year we can be fighting much more at the front‘.
