Despite the cancellation of the Argentine GP, the 2024 MotoGP season continues with a record 21 rounds on the calendar – which, with the addition of Sprint races, totals 42 races between March and November. Luca Marini will ride for Repsol Honda and spoke about this extension and intensity of the season.
The Italian commented to the press: ‘It’s certainly difficult to talk about because we also have to do what the organization, along with the teams, decides to do. We, as riders, have to be prepared for everything. I think it’s very important to have a good relationship with the team, to feel like in a second family, so that when you go to the races, you can be mentally relaxed and also have good times outside the paddock. And that’s what we’ll also try to do this year. It will certainly be a very long season, with quite a few races’.
Although acknowledging that riders will have to address the issue of physical problems, Marini recognized the importance of the current extensive calendar: ‘The topic of injuries will be one that we will talk about among the riders, looking for a solution for the future, because last year was very difficult for everyone. But if we need to have more races, if there is more spectacle, it means more money for everyone and it’s better for the sport and for the riders and teams. I think the most important thing is for everyone to enjoy on TV and also in the stands at the circuits because we need all the fans there, it’s very important for us as riders’.
