Despite the cancellation of the Argentina GP, the 2024 MotoGP season continues with a record 21 rounds on the calendar – which, with the Sprint races, amounts to a total of 42 races between March and November. Luca Marini will ride for Repsol Honda and spoke about this extension and intensity of the season.
The Italian commented to the press: ‘It is certainly difficult to talk about, because we also have to do what the organization decides with the teams. As riders, we have to be prepared for everything. I think it is very important to have a good relationship with the team, to be like a second family, so that when you go to the races you can be mentally relaxed and have good moments outside the paddock as well. And that is what we will also try to do this year. It will certainly be a very long season, with many races.’
Although recognizing that the riders will have to address the issue of physical problems, Marini acknowledged the importance that the current extensive calendar can have: ‘The issue of injuries will be one that we will discuss among the riders, looking for a solution for the future, because last year was very difficult for everyone. But if we need to do more races, if there is more spectacle, it is more money for everyone and it is better for the sport and for the riders and teams. I think the most important thing is that everyone enjoys on television and also in the stands at the circuits because we need all the fans there, it is very important for us as riders.’
