In another strong result, José Ignacio Cornejo finished second in stage 10 of the Dakar 2024. He was only two seconds behind the winner, his Monster Energy Honda teammate Ricky Brabec. He is currently fourth in the overall classification, just behind his teammate Adrien van Beveren and Ross Branch (Hero MotoSports) – the trio competing for second place.
The Chilean rider was pleased with his performance despite a day that wasn’t error-free, as he told the Dakar website: ‘A long stage. The pace was really fast, so everyone attacked hard. I caught up to Kevin [Benavides], passed him, then made a mistake and he passed me back, and then I passed him again. Overall, it was a solid day. Some small mistakes, but nothing too big. I’m happy with my riding. I basically attacked all day by myself. The feeling on the bike is good; we regained our confidence after yesterday’s mistake’.
Currently in a tight battle for second place, Cornejo made a promise: ‘There are two more days left, and we will attack until the end and finish as high as possible. The fight for the podium is intense, Ross, Adrien, and I are separated by about two minutes, so I will fight until the end’.
