Andrea Iannone started his preparation for the debut in the World Superbike Championship in 2024 this week, with two days of testing in Jerez. It was his first contact with a competition bike almost four years after being suspended, and on his return, despite the fatigue, he did not stop having fun.
The Team GoEleven Italian rider revealed to the site GPOne.com that he was even above the expected level: ‘I had a lot of fun on Wednesday, the feelings with the bike are good and also with the tires. That is important, for sure I have to improve in some areas, but we also have time for that. We started at a very good level and I did not expect this at all, I expected worse. Fortunately, we are ahead, I don’t think anyone expected that‘.
Despite the good start and the importance of it, Iannone does not get carried away with excessive euphoria: ‘You have to keep your feet on the ground, that’s normal. You can’t think that there is no work to be done, that you have arrived. You have to keep your head down and work, but the starting point is important. It was essential for me to feel this way and I have to say that I am happy. An important day in many ways. […] I have to be aware of everything that is necessary, but I also want to enjoy this day and this return. It is important that I have not taken anything for granted, it has a great meaning for me‘.
