Augusto Fernández returned to top ten results with a ninth place finish in the MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix. The rookie secured his position on the final lap, overtaking Fabio DiGiannantonio (Gresini/Ducati).
The GasGas Tech3 Spanish rider considers it a positive performance, where he could have achieved even more: ‘It was a tough race, but I am happy with the pace, happy with how I felt on the bike and how I managed the tires as well. I felt that I was a bit faster than the group ahead of me, where Jack [Miller] was. But one thing is to be faster, another is to overtake. I managed to overtake DiGia to get this ninth place, but I lacked something to overtake the rest of the riders’.
Overall, Fernández argued that the race pace was good, but he needs to start the GPs better: ‘Once again, we extracted a pace that wasn’t bad on Sunday; we need to start the weekends better to try to expect better positions on Sunday, because we always have a good pace. But I am happy with how I felt on the bike and in the race. So, it was a positive race’.
