A week after dominating in Barcelona, Aprilia faced more difficulties at the San Marino MotoGP. Their best rider was Maverick Viñales, who could not do better than fifth place.
When asked if the real performance image of Aprilia is what was seen in the Catalunya GP or in Misano, the Spanish rider replied: ‘They are two different tracks. Honestly, here everyone is fast because there is a lot of grip. I think we have to consider Assen, we have to consider Silverstone, as references, where the grip level is medium – not too high or too low. So, on those tracks we were very fast‘.
About Misano specifically, Viñales said that it is not easy to make a difference: ‘In Misano it is always complicated: Ducati does 2,000 laps here, KTM tested before. It is true that [Lorenzo] Sava was testing here, but he was testing very new things that we cannot even try. So, on this track everyone is fast – including myself in this group. But now, for me, it is very important to improve braking on the test day and we will take advantage in the next tracks, of course‘.
