Francesco Bagnaia is in the second qualifying of the MotoGP Argentina GP. The Ducati rider crashed near the end of the session, but even without being able to improve in the last five minutes, he ended up in 10th place, just 0.011s ahead.

The 2022 and 2023 champion mentioned that there was progress between the free practice and the session: ‘This morning I was feeling more or less like Thailand, with some issues. And this afternoon we changed a bit the bike, also some parts, and I feel well again on braking, entry. It was better, so I’m happy with this feeling’.

Asked about the difficulties he faced, Bagnaia explained: ‘I was struggling a lot in braking since the Thailand test. The first part of braking, entering, and letting the bike go in. My feeling wasn’t the same as last year – I was struggling to stop the bike well, to control the slide. It was difficult for me. This afternoon we changed the bike a bit, and it was better. I feel more like the last year’.

Despite the improvements, the #63 couldn’t turn them into lap time gains in the final minutes due to a crash, which he regretted: ‘Unfortunately, I crashed during the second attempt of the time attack, and it was a bit of a shame, because I needed this lap time, I wanted to feel the speed. But I’m in the top ten, and that’s already good considering my feeling’.

How much further could Bagnaia have gone without the crash? The rider replied: ‘I think I could have dropped three and a half tenths. That would have been very good, because in the first attempt I didn’t do anything crazy because I wanted the lap time, but I missed turn 5, turn 7, a bit the 11. So, I feel that I could have improved something’.

At risk of missing out on go directly to the Q2, the Italian spoke about his feelings while watching the session’s outcome: ‘Already when I was on the scooter, I was thinking: «Okay, I will finish 11th by a few tenths, it will be a sh*t». But luckly I was inside»’.
