In 2023, Fabio Quartararo started the MotoGP season with hopes of fighting for the title, after having done so until the last round the previous year. The same does not happen in the season that started last weekend in Losail, with Yamaha perfectly aware that they do not have the “weapons” to be at the top.
The French rider, who fought for the title between 2020 and 2022, admitted that it was difficult to accept the reality in 2023, but faces the new season knowing well that he cannot think about winning the championship:
– It’s not easy. From my side, even last year it was very difficult to accept the position I was in, especially in the first seven/eight races I was not feeling good personally. Also at home I wasn’t well – when you fight for the title three years in a row and you are in this position, it’s never easy. But at this moment, being realistic, you have to know where you are; we are not in a position to think about the championship.
In any case, Quartararo emphasized his confidence in Yamaha: ‘I am working hard, I think Yamaha is also working hard. The project is much clearer than last year. So we are taking steps. It will take time, but I think we will be much faster.’.
