Pedro Acosta achieved another podium this Saturday, now in the Sprint race of the Spanish GP. Despite starting from tenth after a crash in qualifying, the rookie recovered to second in a race full of crashes.
The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 Spanish rider said in the official broadcast interview: ‘Well, in the end we know we had the pace, but it was very difficult starting from tenth after the crash in qualifying. It was very difficult; it’s true that the first lap and also the start were good, overtaking [Fabio] DiGia and other riders was quite good‘.
About the track conditions during the race, Acosta commented: ‘With the mixed conditions in turns 5 and 8 it wasn’t easy, because the wet parts were very wet, let’s say, and it was easy to lose the rear there. And it happened when I was behind Enea [Bastianini], I touched the wet part and went wide‘.
After this result and the performance he had, the young rider downplayed the fact that he moved up to second in the World Championship, but highlighted that he is closer to his goals: ‘We are also getting closer in the Sprint, we are getting closer to our goal, and that’s it. In the end, being second in the championship doesn’t matter, but to make a podium in front of these fans is completely fantastic’.
