Fabio di Giannantonio achieved his first victory in MotoGP yesterday, but he remains at serious risk of not having a place for the next season. He was once pointed out as the main option for Repsol Honda, but it seems that Luca Marini will succeed Marc Márquez… leaving only one spot open at the Mooney VR46 Racing Team.
Valentino Rossi’s team is targeting a young talent from Moto2, like Fermín Aldeguer, but di Giannantonio’s manager is trying to place his rider. According to GPOne.com, Diego Tavano intends to formalize an agreement, with everything leaning towards VR46.
If this option fails, the goal will be to speak with a constructor so that the Italian becomes the third driver. There have already been conversations with Aprilia Racing’s CEO, Massimo Rivola. Lorenzo Savadori is the current test driver for the Noale constructor, but even with wildcards and appearances as a substitute driver, he does not have the MotoGP competition experience that di Giannantonio could bring.
