Thibault Benistant, from Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, was forced to withdraw from the seventh round of the Motocross World Championship in Saint Jean d’Angely, after a serious crash during the MX2 Timed Practice yesterday, Saturday, May 18.
Benistant crashed on a steep downhill two laps into the start of the Timed Practice session and went over the handlebars. The 22-year-old French rider, who is currently in fourth place in the MX2 Championship standings, suffered a heavy impact and was immediately taken to the medical center on site, where initially the presence of fractures or serious injuries was ruled out. However, after a more detailed evaluation, a small fracture in the C5 vertebra was detected.
In the coming weeks, Benistant will work closely with a team of medical specialists in Lyon, France, who will monitor his progress and adjust his treatment plan as necessary. An update on his potential return to action will be shared in due course.
