Valentino Rossi celebrated his first podium in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) yesterday. The Team WRT driver finished the 6 Hours of Imola in second place in the LMGT3 category, just behind the team’s other car.
Il Dottore, who has Ahmad Al Harthy and Maxime Martin as his teammates, was behind the wheel for more than half of the race. The trio even took the lead at one point, but ended up in second place.
In a statement, Rossi expressed his happiness with this result: ‘I am very happy with the one-two for Team WRT, for BMW M Motorsport, and for my first podium in the WEC. We had a strong car in Saturday’s qualifying, and Ahmad did something very good by starting from third‘.
In his race analysis, the former MotoGP rider admitted that the other BMW was more competitive, but he is still satisfied with the final second place:
– In the race, we decided to stay out on slick tires. Augusto [Farfus] was a bit faster than Maxime at the beginning and took the lead. Nevertheless, I am very happy with the result.
