In the second round, Valentino Rossi celebrated his first podium in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in motorsport. It was at the 6 Hours of Imola, held this Sunday at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
The nine-time motorcycle world champion competes in a BMW from Team WRT with Maxime Martin and Ahmad Al Harthy. The trio finished the race in second place, 22.838s behind the winning car – which was the other BMW from Team WRT.
The trio started from third place in a race that had rain. Rossi had a driving stint of over three and a half hours, and after that his BMW even led the race.
However, Augusto Farfus, Darren Leung, and Sean Gelael were stronger in the other BMW in the race, so Il Dottore and his teammates had to settle for second place. The result leaves Rossi, Al Harthy, and Martin in fourth in the championship, 18 points behind the leaders.
