Valentino Rossi, accompanied by Dries Vanthoor and Nick Yelloly, achieved one of his best results so far in motorsport this Sunday, finishing second in the 12 Hours of Gulf. The race took place at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The trio of the BMW #46 from BMW M Team WRT finished in second place, after battling for the win throughout a race marked by several incidents. During his driving stint, Rossi was in the lead, a position he held until handing over the wheel to Yelloly.
At that point, three and a half hours from the end, the car’s pedal box broke, leading to a slow pit stop. Ultimately, this is what cost Il Dottore and his teammates the victory.
Vanthoor was the last to drive and even got close to leader Maro Engel (Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM), but suffered a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits. Thus, he finished 12.811s behind Engel, who celebrated the victory alongside Luca Stolz and Mikael Grenier.
