The MotoGP Americas GP didn’t end as expected for Jack Miller. After showing potential to fight for the top five, during the main race in Austin he began to lose momentum and could not go beyond 13th place.
The Australian from Red Bull KTM revealed that he started to have grip problems during the race, which limited him to a defensive position without being able to do much more than that:
– I had a good start, the feeling was good, the bike was working well in the group with the other riders, and then on lap 7 I had some unexpected, unforeseen problems. The rear just started sliding, on the left side. There was absolutely no grip, no edge grip, absolutely nothing. And that was a battle. I just tried to block all the riders who came after that and couldn’t do much more. I did what I had to do.
According to Miller, until the problem arose, the bike was performing well: ‘It was a good feeling, I was comfortable, especially in the first seven laps. The bike was working really well – better than on Saturday – until it wasn’t. We have a fantastic set-up, I was able to fight there with the riders, but it was an unexpected problem. It is what it is‘.
Asked if the medium rear tire could justify the problem, #43 replied: ‘It’s hard to say. The tires are the ones we’ve used here for the last three years and I didn’t have this problem all weekend‘.
