Ukraine’s Military Unleashes Cutting-Edge Thermobaric Launchers on the Battlefield
In a groundbreaking move, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have revealed plans to deploy state-of-the-art thermobaric launcher-equipped robotic systems. These advanced systems, known as the KRAMPUS, are compact enough to be transported in various vehicles, providing unparalleled flexibility in deployment.
Powered by two silent electric motors and mounted on a tracked chassis, the KRAMPUS system boasts exceptional maneuverability across challenging terrains like off-road areas, dense forests, swamps, and steep slopes. It is designed to resist electronic warfare interference and operate efficiently in extreme weather conditions, including cold, heat, snow, and rain.
Equipped with video cameras and a weapon station featuring RPV-16 reactive thermobaric launchers, the KRAMPUS system poses a formidable threat to enemy personnel and lightly armored vehicles on the battlefield.
Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has ramped up its ground robotic systems, authorizing over 80 units, with the majority being domestically produced. The military has introduced nearly 10 systems in 2023, over 50 in 2024, and more than 20 in 2025 to date.
These cutting-edge ground robotic systems play a crucial role in various military operations, including reconnaissance, mine-laying, demining, logistics, evacuation, and patrolling. Furthermore, weaponized ground drones are utilized for both offensive and defensive missions, with kamikaze variants also being deployed in combat zones.
