New motorcycle registrations for March 2024 reveal a slight decrease in global sales, with motorcycles falling by 3.7% compared to the same period last year.
Adventure motorcycles continued to lead the charts and were one of the segments that saw some growth in March, which was also a month of new registrations, with 4,154 motorcycles registered compared to 3,947 in March 2023.
A new motorcycle proved to be extremely popular last month – the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, compliant with the A2 standard, ended the month as the best-selling modern classic machine, with 222 motorcycles registered. The BMW R1300 GS proved to be highly sought after once again, with 431 registrations, and it was not the first time it was the best-selling high-displacement motorcycle. It is closely followed by the Yamaha NMAX 125, which recorded 415 registrations.
Electric motorcycles saw some growth last month, with an increase in ranges up to 4kW and above 35kW of +32.5% and +114.3%, respectively. In the electric sector, the Sur-Ron Light Bee was the best-selling motorcycle under 4 kW, with 22 motorcycles registered, while the Zero DSR/X ZF17.3 was the top-performing machine with over 35 kW.
Speaking about the statistics, Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA, said:
“We are excited about the overall strength of the market at the end of the first quarter, where we have seen a positive start to the year and expect continued momentum as we enter the peak months of the market. Although we continue to experience high interest rates, we are pleased to see a decrease in inflation, where our market and our products remain robust and highly sought after.”
