The first free practice session of Superbikes in Assen is completed, with Toprak Razgatlioglu finishing as the fastest on track. The Turkish rider, as soon as he started attacking the times, was invariably the fastest and improved his time on three occasions while leading.
With 9ºC on track, the temperature was not the most favorable but that didn’t stop the riders from taking to the track.
The first few minutes of the session had hardly anyone on track at the same time, with only a couple, or three riders at a time on the Dutch circuit.
With 19 minutes remaining in the session, it was BMW’s #54 leading with a lap time of 1:36.956s, while Xavi Vierge from Honda was 0.320s behind.
Only in the final minutes did more riders start to be on track at the same time, with Garrett Gerloff moving to the top of the session, but being surpassed by Alex Lowes. The British rider would improve his time shortly after, setting the benchmark at 1:35.974s.
Meanwhile, Razgatlioglu moved to the front two minutes before the end with 1:35.777s, a time he further improved on two occasions.
Here is the classification in FP1, with Razga in first with a 0.290s advantage over A. Lowes, while Álvaro Bautista was third. Gardner and Jonathan Rea closed the top five.
