After finishing his career as a rider, Toni Elías returns to the MotoGP paddock this year. He will join Gresini as a coach for the Moto2 and MotoE teams.
In an interview with the site SPEEDWEEK.com during last week’s Moto2 tests, the 40-year-old Spaniard stated: ‘I will act as a coach for Gresini in Moto2 and MotoE and I will try to pass on my experience to our riders. We tried it in the last two races of last year and I really liked it. So we talked about it and I decided to try to strengthen the team‘.
Regarding what he hopes to add, Elías explained: ‘I want to give the pilots whatever they need – and different pilots may need different things. Sometimes it’s about riding style, sometimes it’s about tuning or creating a better connection between the pilot and the team, but it can also be mental aspects. There is no one system that works for everyone. It’s about giving each pilot or team what they need at a certain moment‘.
