The MXGP of Portugal started on a rainy Saturday, counting towards the MXGP and MX2 motocross World Championships. In the MXGP, Tim Gajser won the qualifying race in Águeda, while Liam Everts was stronger in the MX2.
Starting with the main category, MXGP, Gajser (Team HRC) took the lead on the first lap and never looked back. His closest pursuer was always Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM), in a battle between champions that the Slovenian won by 2.361s.
In third place was Romain Febvre (Kawasaki), who didn’t have the pace to keep up with the top two. Still, the Frenchman finished a solid third with over a minute gap to Calvin Vlaanderen (Monster Energy Yamaha). Pauls Jonass (Standing Construct Honda) closed out the top five.
As for the MX2, Everts had a dominant performance. Rick Elzinga (Monster Energy Yamaha) led in the first two laps, but the Belgian from Red Bull KTM took control of the race to win by a margin of 28.052s.
Elzinga managed to hold onto second place with a solid advantage, with Hakon Osterhagen (JM Honda Racing) in third. Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull GasGas) finished fourth, with Lucas Coenen (Nestaan Husqvarna) in fifth.
