Tim Gajser, in MXGP, and Kay de Wolf, in MX2, were the winners of the qualifying races of the MXGP of Germany. The event counts towards the Motocross World Championships, taking place at the Teutschenthal circuit.
Holeshot by Jorge Prado (Red Bull GasGas) in the MXGP qualifying race to stay in the lead of the race. Gajser (Team HRC) then moved up to second, and the top two would end up distancing themselves from the rest of the pack.
Without giving up, Gajser would even manage to overtake Prado less than ten minutes before the end, to secure the victory with a considerable lead of 9.090s over the Spaniard.
Third place went to Romain Febvre (Kawasaki), who also overtook Mattia Guadagnini (Red Bull KTM) near the end. The Italian lost even more positions and finished in eighth, while the top five was completed by Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) and Jeremy Seewer (Kawasaki).
As for MX2, the holeshot in the qualifying race was by De Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna), who thus took the lead he lost to Rick Elzinga (Monster Energy Yamaha) on the third lap… before regaining it three laps later, overtaking the same rival.
Elzinga continued to lose positions and Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM) was De Wolf’s main pursuer in the final laps. Despite the distance not being significant, the leader stayed at the top until the end and won with a 1.147s lead over Adamo.
Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM) was third, ahead of Mikkel Haarup (Monster Energy Triump) who passed Elzinga on the last lap to secure fourth place.
