Neither the rain and strong winds that have been plaguing the country in recent weeks, nor the last-minute limitations imposed by the Public Security Police will prevent the massive protest against the new Single Circulation Tax table. The thousands of motorcyclists from all over the country who will gather tomorrow (Sunday) at 12 o’clock, on the 2nd Circular (Encarnação) will take a slightly different route than planned to the building of the Presidency of the Republic, but nothing will deter them from attending the MegaManifestation organized by GAM – Motorcyclist Action Group. Changes dictated by the Metropolitan Command of the PSP, alleging “reasons arising from the need to guarantee the security of the organs of sovereignty” to prohibit circulation on Calçada da Estrela and Rua de Belém.
Limitations to the right of assembly and demonstration enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic that not only do not intimidate motorcyclists, but also reinforce the will to be present and make their voice heard against the aberrant and highly damaging changes to the IUC foreseen in the State Budget for 2024.
Motorcyclists from the North of the country, through the A1; from the Algarve through the A2 and from the Beiras/Alentejo via the A6, will cross Lisbon from the 2nd Circular, passing through Campo Grande, Av. da República, Av. Fontes Pereira de Melo, Marquês de Pombal, Rua Braamcamp, Largo do Rato, Av. Infante de Santo, Av. da Índia and Praça Afonso de Albuquerque to Praça do Império, where the demonstration will end. And just like it did with the Luxury Tax issue, the Rail Law, Inspections, or the 125 cc license, GAM, an entity that fights for the defense of the rights and interests of citizens/motorcyclists, will not stop until its voice is heard.
It should be noted that the caravan heading to the Belém Palace, where it will deliver a letter addressed to the Honorable President of the Republic, Dr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressing concerns about another highly discriminatory measure by the Government, will not stop at the meeting point (at the 2nd Circular). Instead, it will be a convergence of caravans of hundreds of motorcyclists, who will depart at 11 o’clock from the Service Areas of Aveiras de Cima (A1), Alcácer do Sal (A2), and Vendas Novas (A6). A demonstration that will bring together motorcycles of all displacements and aims to show the outrage of motorcyclists against such an ill-advised measure, and for which we invite Your Media Outlet to be present.
