Francesco Bagnaia took full advantage of Jorge Martín’s (Prima Pramac/Ducati) retirement in the main race of the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix. The Ducati rider was the winner this Sunday in Mandalika, a crucial result that leaves him with some breathing room at the top of the championship.
The Italian was asked in a press conference what he thought after Martín’s crash, and he replied: ‘It was very important to win the race for the points and not make any mistakes because it was very easy to lose the front in the right-hand corners. The front was always having moments. I didn’t have the chance to compete with the soft [rear tire] because with my riding style I was struggling a bit, but I think the hard was the best choice for me‘.
About the importance of returning to victories, Bagnaia stated: ‘This victory is absolutely very, very important. It is similar to the one in Malaysia last year. It was very important to have the victory and I did my best in both cases. So, I am very, very happy. I know perfectly well that Jorge is very fast, but we deserved this victory, we needed this victory to have this kind of feeling after the Barcelona accident. It was not an easy period, but surely winning again gives us a lot of motivation‘.
