Francesco Bagnaia reached second place in the qualifying for the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix. That will be the position he will occupy on the starting grid for the Sprint race this Saturday, but not in the main race tomorrow at Mugello.
The Ducati man was penalized three positions on the starting grid due to an incident that occurred yesterday with Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) in the second practice session, so he will start from fifth on Sunday.
And this reprimand did not sit well with Bagnaia, who said in the interview to the official broadcast: ‘Absolutely, starting from the front row is one of the best things I could do today, because this penalty nonsense is useless‘.
Next is the Sprint race, and the Italian showed confidence in his abilities and pace – believing that it will be particularly important to take the lead early on:
– Today it will be important to start well, give our best, and we know that our pace is very, very fast. So, if we can be leading in the first lap, we can have a good advantage.
