The French MotoGP Grand Prix was not easy for Francesco Bagnaia. The Ducati rider led the main race, but in the final laps he dropped to third, unable to hold off Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) and Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati). However, despite the third place finish and having abandoned the Sprint race, he is satisfied enough.
When asked if he leaves Le Mans with a bittersweet taste, the Italian replied to the official championship website: ‘Absolutely not. But I want to have a 360º view of the weekend, and it is very positive. We started well, we were always competitive. We only had this kind of problems on Saturday that didn’t help at all. On Sunday we started better and I was able to fight, but I failed in the last laps. They were faster, they had something more. Finishing third is always a good result for the championship, but I want to improve in the next races’.
As for what made him lose more to his rivals in the final laps of the race, Bagnaia explained that his problem was the third sector of the circuit:
– Sector 3 was my weak point. On Saturday it was a good point, but on Sunday I wasn’t strong. I was losing too much time in turn 9. I was trying my best, Sectors 1 and 2 were mine, but the amount of distance I was losing in Sector 3 was too much. It’s something to improve, but we have time, and considering we didn’t do the Sprint race, it was important to finish the main race.
