The second day of MotoGP testing in Sepang ended and Joan Mir was the best Honda rider – finishing in tenth position, 0.738s behind the leader, Enea Bastianini (Ducati).
The Repsol Honda rider mentioned that he had a competitive base and is pleased with the direction they are taking… but cautious: ‘Yesterday we tried several things, reconfirmed some things that were working well yesterday. And today we had more or less a base that I was more comfortable with. That was great, I was able to improve my lap time – the best also on the Honda. This means there is some potential. I am happy with how everything is going, but it is true that we have to be cautious because we are still far away. This is the reality’.
Mir emphasized that Honda is in the process of readjusting the bike after the various new features introduced, hoping to work more on the details on the last day of testing in Malaysia: ‘We have more top speed, but we also lack in different areas. It’s not that the new engine is all positive. We need to rebalance everything a bit, we are currently in that process. Let’s see if tomorrow we can work a bit on the details – that’s what makes you improve that last tenth. I think we have room there. So, let’s see if tomorrow we can take another step forward and continue with our progress’.
