It was still during the year 2020 that Speed Up took on Fermín Aldeguer, when the pilot was only 15 years old and already promising to be a “serious case”. In the following year, he became the European Moto2 champion, and now he is one of the main contenders for the world title in the category. All under the guidance of Luca Boscoscuro.
The team owner spoke to SPEEDWEEK.com about this investment in the Spanish rider: ‘I signed a contract with Fermín in 2020 and in 2021 he competed with us in the European Moto2. I am glad that he has now blossomed into a winning rider. He could have won the world championship in 2022, but he still lacked experience and knowledge of the tracks. He had a lot of talent. The extent of his talent is incredible‘.
When Boscoscuro discovered Aldeguer, the pilot’s desire was to compete in the Moto3 World Championship, but it was not the path outlined by the team and the owner explained that it was all due to a question of height: ‘Fermín is over 1.80m tall. Fermín had already grown too much for Moto3 at the age of 14. That’s why I put him in the European Moto2 in 2021, he won nine out of 11 races on his first attempt. The other two were won by my rider Alonso López‘.
