Electric motorcycles are taking on all sorts of interesting shapes and sizes, and needless to say, the future of two-wheeled mobility space is very electric. That being said, we have seen numerous electric innovations from Indian manufacturers. From practical scooters like the Ola S1 to performance-oriented machines from Ultraviolette, there is no shortage of electric vehicle developments coming from the Asian country.
Raptee Energy is another emerging player in India’s growing electric motorcycle industry. The company recently unveiled its latest innovation at its Global Investors Meet (GIM) in Tamil Nadu. Here, the company showcased an interesting electric motorcycle that is set to hit the roads of India in April 2024. At the time of writing this article, the motorcycle did not have a name yet, so we will simply refer to it as the Raptee electric motorcycle. During the GIM, Raptee showcased the internal workings of its electric motorcycle through a “transparent” display, showing all the internal components and where they are housed within the motorcycle.
Raptee Energy claims that the electric motorcycle has quite an impressive performance, with a top speed of 135 km/h and a range of 150 km on a single charge. Additionally, Raptee states that the motorcycle can charge up to 80% in just 45 minutes through CCS2 charging stations. While this may not seem like much compared to its Western counterparts, it’s worth noting that Indian streets are narrow and cities are densely populated. For an exhilarating ride, the Raptee Electric Motorcycle’s motor can take the bike from 0 to 60 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.
On paper, the specifications of the Raptee electric motorcycle seem to mirror those of 150cc to 200cc gasoline models – considered mid-size premium motorcycles in the Indian market context. Raptee Energy is gearing up to produce the new motorcycle at its massive factory. Located in Chennai, it spans four hectares and will require an investment of around 850 million rupees (approximately 10 million dollars). The new facilities include an R&D center for future developments. In total, Raptee aims to produce 100,000 units per year.
