Francesco Bagnaia finished the first day of the Le Mans GP in second position. The Italian rider showed great consistency throughout the day and was only 0.145 milliseconds behind his rival, Jorge Martín.
In the debrief, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider talked about the sensations he had during the first day of practice at the French circuit.
– I can say it was a good day. Thanks to my team who has been doing a good job on Fridays. It’s better to start with a good pace, we don’t have to try new things to improve. The pace was good right away which is an advantage and being focused only on my performance and not on the bike. I worked a lot on the bike for Sunday’s race, I am more focused on that race. For the Sprint we can finish on the podium.
Asked about Quartararo’s situation and racing at home, Pecco replied: ‘I think when we race at home, there is a power of the people that helps a lot. He is a very fast rider and as soon as he finds a good feeling on the bike he will be fast, his pace is not bad and he is doing a great job, for sure it was a big relief.’
Bagnaia talked about tire choices for the Sprint and for Sunday: ‘I tried the medium and for me tomorrow morning it could be a good tire. The soft ones are too soft, it depends from rider to rider, but I think tomorrow the medium will be better.’
