The current Moto3 world champion, Jaume Masiá, is preparing to make the jump to the intermediate category in the upcoming year. The Spanish rider recalled the incidents that happened in 2023 and is already looking ahead to 2024.
‘It was the first time I was on the bike and I was two, three tenths off the leader. Was I expecting it? Well, I don’t know. In the end, it’s something very strange, the first time and racing is very complicated. What I highlight is the team’s affection, everything they did to help me adapt, it was spectacular. I also tried to adapt as much as possible to the aspects of the bike and it was a very productive day,’ the young rider began, referring to the tests that took place in Valencia.
‘I consider myself a very adaptable pilot when it comes to things. I have been saying this, I know that with humility and work, things will happen. The first day of testing, in the end, doesn’t mean anything, it’s just a test, although the other pilots have a lot of kilometers and that is quite noticeable. There are still many steps I have to take, but I believe that with humility, work, and respect I will put everything into this category. And why couldn’t I be truly competitive?’, he added.
Looking back, Masiá revealed his satisfaction with the Moto3 title he won.
‘The only thing I know is that I won the title. Whoever decided my fate and what had to happen, I believe did well. If last year my promotion didn’t happen, it’s because it didn’t have to happen, it was because they were expecting big things for this season, like winning a title. Now, I feel like a very mature person with a clear head, capable of facing very difficult situations. I am super happy and grateful that things happened this way. Of course, I had doubts about whether I could win the world title, there are always doubts. Who doesn’t have them with so much pressure, nerves, with what happened in Austria, in Silverstone. Obviously, I questioned myself, but I kept believing, working. Life wanted me to win the title. I also highlight that the team had incredible confidence, that made me trust 100% in everything, both here and what the mechanics and technicians told me. That was the key, trying to minimize the doubts I could have and it made us consistent, regular, and positive about the things that were happening’, he emphasized, in an interview with the newspaper Marca.
‘I am lucky to be surrounded by people who care about me a lot. Winning a world championship is a matter of 21 races, it’s not just about one race. I believe I did a good job, that our team had very clear what teamwork is. My doubts were about arriving in Valencia with options to win the title and what would have happened with all the KTM riders. I wouldn’t have liked to witness that situation. So it was, bird in hand and everyone facing a new adventure. And see if Ayumu Sasaki is really such a good rider, if not, if it was the bike…’, he rewound.
In 2024, Masiá will join Edu Perales’ SAG Team.
